YOUTH - POVERTY - SOCIAL EXCLUSION - KOŠICE 2010

Many people in Europe live in a lack without possibility to afford basic services, such as e. g. health care. Almost 80 millions of Europeans live in poverty, what is contrary to principles of EU about solidarity and social justice. The year 2010 is actually the European Year of combating poverty and social exclusion. And combating poverty and social exclusion is the topic of the international youth exchange organised by Regional youth centre in Košice. By non-formal education and participatory methods the young people will focus on how the poverty and social exclusion look like in their countries and what are the attitudes of their communities towards these problems.

The Regional youth center allows young people to regularly meet with their peers from other countries and also to travel to countries where they can deal with topics they are interested in. As the year 2010 is the European Year of combating poverty and social exclusion, we decided to allow those youngsters from our trainings that were interested in the topic, to deal with the topic internationally. From Feb. 1st till Feb 8th 2010 the 39 youngsters from 4 countries will spend their time in Nature School facility in Kysak communicating among each other and doing common activities. The young people from Finland, Slovenia, Italy and Slovakia will take part in the exchange.

By means of personal experience they will get in touch also with theatrical techniques of Brazilian director Augusto Boelo, known as "Theatre of oppressed". Within these techniques they will get to know with Invisible theatre, Propaganda theatre, Newpaper theatre, Theatre of coda and Forum theatre. These techniques approved themselves in many countries. Especially techniques of the theatre of oppressed which are successful also in Africa and South America.According to the participants, those could be used also with work with Roma people in their settlements.

The project was approved from grant programme of European Commission "Youth in action" (www.ec.europa.eu/youth)
