Youth Voter Participation: Involving todays Young in Tommorows democracy

Regional youth center in Košice is organising an international seminar for youth leaders and youth workers from 15th to 20th June 2009. Seminar is supported by the YOUTH IN ACTION programme of European Commission.

Participants of the seminar are from 8 countries of Europe (Slovakia, Czech republic, Finland, Greece, Italy, Slovenia, Spain and Hungary). Seminar will take place in ŠvP Kysak.

The main aim of the proposed seminar is to find innovative and creative ways of how to explain to the youth the importance of elections and functions of parliaments to supply the respect of principles of law, citizenz's and politic rights in elections on every level.

To fulfill this main aim we also set partial aims:

  1. to find new methods of work for youth workers, how to work with main topics of the project
  2. to exchange experiences and to inspire one another with their experiences
  3. to get to know the reality of work with youth in the field of democracy, participation and citizenship in various countries
  4. to get to know different approaches of youth workers applied in Europe and worldwide
  5. to define basic criteria and values or define ethic conditions for work with youth in these "political topics"

Prepared programme of the seminar anticipates the active participation of all participants and instead of lectures there will be mostly practical exercises, experiences exchange and team cooperation in finding new concepts of activities for youth.

Methodology of the seminar consists of these basic steps:

  • Introduction of participants
  • presentation of results of the EP elections in relation to participation of young people
  • presentation and evaluation of results of previous cooperation
  • exchange of experiences of participants of the project, examples of good experience
  • blocks about the techniques of simulation in work with youth
  • block about democratic methods in work with youth
  • creation of methodology for new activities and projects
  • planning of activities for future
  • form of ensuring the future cooperation
  • evaluation of activities

The main methods used will be discussions, group work, presentations, brainstorming and simulations. By the participation on the seminar  the participants have the possibility for knowing new methods and activities which might help them in their future work with youth and developing their professional competencies.
